When disaster strikes, ADRA South Africa is positioned to act quickly — and to stay for recovery.
Floods, fires, drought and displacement can strip families of food, shelter and dignity overnight. Fast, organised assistance saves lives — and recovery support helps communities rebuild with less risk next time.
Our Board-approved National Emergency Management Plan (NEMP), endorsed by the ADRA Africa Regional Office, gives us a ready-to-activate framework so we can respond with speed and consistency.
Our standard response menus cover the essentials households need first:
Depending on need, responses may also include clothing, shelter-related assistance, cash or vouchers, and psychosocial support.
Emergency work follows a continuum — from first response through recovery and preparedness.
We activate the NEMP to deliver food, household items, WASH kits and other urgent support as soon as conditions allow.
After the immediate crisis, we help families regain stability — including psychosocial support and practical assistance that restores dignity and daily life.
We work so communities are better prepared for the next event — reducing vulnerability before disaster strikes again.
We respond to floods, fires, drought, severe storms, displacement and other humanitarian emergencies. Recent responses include disaster relief in KwaZulu-Natal, psychosocial support for disaster-affected families, water delivery to communities in the Free State, and clothing distributions to flood and fire victims in the Eastern and Western Cape.
As part of the wider ADRA network, ADRA South Africa also serves as a national response partner in regional emergencies, including climate-driven events such as El Niño-related drought.
